A New Life in New Zealand: Oltman Joubert’s Visa Journey

When South African boilermaker and fabricator Oltman Joubert started looking at moving overseas, the goal was simple. He wanted a better life for his family and a new start somewhere that shared their values. “We wanted new beginnings and a better future for our two daughters,” Oltman explained. “We felt stuck in South Africa and saw New Zealand as a place where we could grow together.”

Getting started with the right help

Like most people planning a move, the hardest part was knowing where to start. Oltman spent months researching what was needed financially, professionally and emotionally. Once he was confident the move was right for them, he got in touch with Migration Associates for visa advice and guidance.

Leaving home and settling in

Now settled in New Zealand, Oltman says life feels everything they hoped for. “Everyone is positive and welcoming. The scenery, the people and the opportunities have made the move worth it. We only really miss family, friends and biltong,” he laughed.

His advice for others

“Do it for yourself and your family,” Oltman said. “There will always be people who say it can’t be done, but it can. Come with an open mind and accept help when it’s offered.”
