Work in New Zealand
Almost half of the 40,000 new jobs created annually in New Zealand are in Accommodation and Food Services, Business Services, Construction, or Retail Trade. While Transport and Logistics and Non-Farm Manufacturing are smaller sectors, they are also expected to grow, albeit at a slower pace. Employment growth will be strongest for highly-skilled occupations, including managers and professionals. However, there will still be opportunities for less skilled workers, although not as many as for those who are highly skilled. The fastest-growing occupations in this category include drivers, construction and mining labourers, and delivery drivers.
Jobs in Auckland and other cities and towns
Jobs in New Zealand are spread out throughout the country. The three largest job centres are Auckland, Canterbury (including Christchurch), and Wellington. While job growth in Canterbury has slowed due to the wind-down of the rebuild following the 2011 earthquakes, there are still many jobs available in the region. Other regions with a high number of job opportunities include the Waikato (based around the city of Hamilton), the Bay of Plenty (Tauranga), Otago (Dunedin and Queenstown), and around Nelson. The region with the fastest-growing job market recently has been Manawatu-Wanganui (Palmerston North).
