Partner Visas Overview

Temporary Partnership Based Visas:

Designed for partners of New Zealand residents, citizens, migrant workers, and international students, these visas allow temporary entry to New Zealand. They provide an opportunity for partners to join their loved ones for a defined period.

    • Partnership Based Visitor Visa: This visa allows a person to visit New Zealand based on their relationship with a New Zealand resident, citizen, migrant worker, and international student. This visa typically serves as a stepping stone, facilitating applicants to subsequently pursue a partnership work visa.
    • Culturally Arranged Marriage Visitor Visa: This visa is designed for individuals who have recently married, or intend to marry, a New Zealand resident or citizen through a traditional arranged marriage. This visa allows the holder to live with their partner in New Zealand for up to 3 months or to travel to New Zealand for the purpose of marrying. This visa typically serves as an initial stage, facilitating applicants to subsequently pursue a partnership work visa.
    • Partnership Based Work Visa: This visa in New Zealand allows individuals who have a spouse or partner who is a New Zealand resident, citizen, migrant worker, and international student to live with their partner in New Zealand. This visa gives holders the right to work and study 3 months in New Zealand and is a pathway to New Zealand residence.

Resident Partnership Based Visas:

    • Partner of a New Zealander Resident Visa: This visa grants residence to partners and spouses of New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.

Dependent Child Visas Overview

    • Dependent Child Visitor Visa: Dependent children under 4 years old of eligible student and work visa holders can join their parents in New Zealand under this visa category, fostering family connections and relationships.
    • Dependent Child Student Visa: This visa grants children aged over 4 years, who are dependents of eligible student and work visa holders, the opportunity to enrol as domestic students in New Zealand schools, ensuring they can continue their education while staying with their parents.
    • Dependent Children Resident Visa: Dependent children under 24 years old, who are single and without children of their own, are eligible to apply for this visa if their parents are New Zealand residents or citizens. This visa offers them a direct pathway to residency.

Visa Duration: Partners will receive visas for the same duration as their supporting partner’s visa. Children will be granted visas matching the length of their parent’s student/work visa, unless their passports expire sooner.

Parent Visas Overview

    • Parent and Grandparent Visitor Visa: Parents can also visit their children in New Zealand for up to six months at a time, with a maximum total stay of 18 months in three years, under this visa category.
    • Parent Resident Visa: This visa allows parents of New Zealand citizens and residents, who can act as sponsors, to live in New Zealand permanently. It is an excellent option for parents wishing to reunite with their children in New Zealand long-term.
    • Parent Retirement Visa: Designed for the parents of New Zealand citizens and residents, this visa allows parents to permanently retire in New Zealand, providing them with the opportunity to enjoy their golden years with their families.
