Kia ora,
We understand the importance of efficient immigration processes for both employers and migrants. Recently, there have been updates to the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) system in New Zealand, aimed at simplifying procedures and ensuring fairness for all parties involved. Immigration New Zealand has resolved an issue that previously hindered employers from reusing job tokens for certain AEWV employees. Additionally, changes have been made to visa durations and application procedures, providing greater flexibility and clarity.
Key Updates:
- Extended Visa Durations: Effective from 27th November 2023, the maximum length of an AEWV has been increased. Individuals earning at least the median wage can now obtain a visa for up to five years, while certain care workforce employees are eligible for a three-year visa.
- Application for AEWV Balance: Current AEWV holders meeting the eligibility criteria can now apply for the balance of the extended visa. Employers are required to initiate this process by sending a request to their eligible employees.
- Streamlined Application Process: Employers can reuse job tokens to facilitate the application for AEWV balance. This option eliminates the need for repetitive job checks and ensures a smoother process for both employers and employees.
- Processing Prioritisation: Applications for AEWV balance with reused job tokens will be queued for processing. Priority is given to applications where the current AEWV expiry date is within the next nine months, ensuring timely consideration of visa extensions.
Application Procedure:
Employers can follow these steps to send a request to their employees for applying for their AEWV balance:
- Log in to Immigration Online.
- Navigate to 'Employ migrants' and locate the relevant accreditation.
- Select the accreditation and click on 'View accreditation.'
- Identify the employee from the list of 'Migrant workers with visas.'
- Choose the option 'Send request' from the dropdown menu.
- Complete and submit the 'Send request to apply for a further AEWV' form.
Considerations for Partners and Dependents:
Partners and dependent children of AEWV holders are also eligible for visa extensions matching the length of the primary visa holder's further AEWV. However, changes to partner visa conditions introduced in May 2023 should be carefully considered before applying for further visas.
Summary:
These updates to the AEWV system reflect Immigration New Zealand's commitment to enhancing the immigration experience for employers and migrants alike. By resolving technical issues, extending visa durations, and streamlining application procedures, the aim is to facilitate smoother transitions for those contributing to New Zealand's workforce.
